Title

CAP/TWCYP Intensive Study Event (ISE)* - Using the tools of psychotherapy in a community context

When

Wednesday 1 May, 13:30 to 16:00

Where

HDS Training Suite, 142 West Nile Street, Glasgow G1 2RQ

Presenter

Jane Elfer

Summary

In her presentation, Jane will talk about how working in a large London hospital and later in a theatre group for young people she developed a way of using her psychotherapy training in settings that have been called ‘applied’. In other words the boundaries offered by the consulting room were often not available.

Jane will talk about how Meltzer’s paper on Temperature and Distance was particularly valuable.  She found that the very presence of someone who could keep a steady mind as they faced the possibility of their own death or of their child’s was in most cases gratefully received.

There will also be discussion about working in the community especially with children and young people who feel alienated from services that are perceived as institutional, remote and rigid.
