In other words the boundaries offered by the consulting room were often not available. Jane will talk about how Meltzer’s paper on Temperature and Distance was particularly valuable. She found that the very presence of someone who could keep a steady mind as they faced the possibility of their own death or of their child’s was in most cases gratefully received. There will also be discussion about working in the community especially with children and young people who feel alienated from services that are perceived as institutional, remote and rigid.
