Trustees’ Week 2022 takes place from 7th to 11th of November and is an annual event to showcase the great work trustees do, celebrate charity boards and provide opportunities for everyone to get involved and make a difference.

The theme for this year is “making a difference in changing times” and HDS has not been immune to facing new challenges as our external environment continues to change. We are thankful that our volunteer trustees serving on our board of trustees have helped us to navigate and continue to help us navigate through these changing times, as we strive to relieve mental and emotional distress by increasing the availability of, and access to, high quality psychodynamic and psychoanalytic counselling and psychotherapy for all who need them.

Value of being a trustee

According to SCVO (Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations), there are around 250,000 trustees across Scotland, who help shape and guide voluntary sector organisations. Trustees provide valuable skills and experience as they help shape and guide charities. Often, they play a vital role working with management staff to make important decisions about the organisation’s work. Most trustees provide their time on a voluntary basis.

Support for trustees

In Scotland, OSCR is the Scottish Charity Regulator. During Trustees’ Week, OSCR will provide a free event entitled, “Learning points for charity trustees” where attendees will find out more about and discuss:

  • The basics of charity trusteeship
  • The trustee experience in practice
  • Common problems – what, why and how
  • How to avoid issues in running a charity

There will be time to ask questions and share real life examples.  The event will take place on 9th November from 11am to 12pm.  Click here to find out more and book your place.

In addition, SCVO are also providing events to support trustees during Trustees’ Week.  Click here to find out more and book your place.

Become a trustee at HDS

HDS is a charity that is supported by a board of trustees who voluntarily provide their expertise to support the effective governance of HDS.  If you are interested in a trustee role with HDS, please contact us at [email protected] to arrange an informal chat with our Chair of the Board of Trustees or a member of our Board.

We are currently seeking a new Chair of the Board of Trustees. We are looking for someone who has a strong sympathy for our charitable aims, the skills required to lead a team of committed trustees, and the vision to lead the charity through the next phase of its development. Click here to find out more.
