Who is the course aimed at?

Practising Counsellors with a Diploma/PG Diploma/Masters In Counselling/Human Relations and Counselling and would like to develop their work as Clinical Counselling Supervisors.

Course description

This course will introduce practising Counsellors to the essential theoretical concepts of counselling supervision and enable the practice of the skills essential to clinical supervision. The course will provide participants with an opportunity to develop these skills in a safe and supportive environment and set these skills within a theoretical and ethical framework.

As with all HDS professional trainings, personal growth, psychodynamic thinking and self-awareness are central to professional clinical development. Within this course the emphasis is on the shift from supervisee to supervisor.

The course has full professional validation by COSCA (Counselling & Psychotherapy in Scotland)

Timings

Counselling Supervision will next run from January - May 2027
One Saturday a month.
Final catch up session October 9th 2027

Entry requirements

Diploma/PG Diploma/Masters In Counselling/Human Relations and Counselling.

(Any theoretical basis. Please note that, as with all HDS professional trainings, there is an emphasis on psychodynamic thinking.)

Costs and funding

Fees will be in the region of £900.
Fees are reviewed each year.
A standard non-refundable application processing fee of £35 applies. To pay an application fee, you can access our payment system after submitting your online application (if you email your application, you will find payment instructions in the application form). Applications will not be processed until the application fee has been received. If you apply for more than one course, the fee is payable for each application submitted. Application fees are non-refundable, this includes in circumstances where an application is unsuccessful.

Counselling Children, Young People and Families

This post-qualifying Certificate is a part-time training programme designed to prepare practitioners to work with children, young adults (up to mid-20s) and their families and is taught from a psychodynamic perspective.
COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills

An introduction to psychodynamic ideas about what it means to be human, together with experiential training in communication and counselling skills incorporating psychodynamic principles.
Human relations and counselling

The Human Relations and Counselling Programme consists of 3 parts to provide different levels of training and qualification. This includes a Dilpoma (PGDip) and Masters (MSc). The course is ideal for people who currently use elements of counselling in their day-to-day work and would like to take further steps towards enhancing their practice and deepening their professional capacity.
Therapeutic work with children and young people

MSc Psychoanalytic Observation and Reflective Practice: Therapeutic Work With Children and Young People. This modular course offers an in-depth understanding of infants’, children’s and adolescents’ emotional and personality development, the significance of primary relationships and their relevance to working with these age groups and their families.
Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

Professional Doctorate in Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. This is a practical and theoretical training course in psychoanalytical psychotherapy with children and young people. This course is the only one in Scotland which is approved by the Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP).
